Nowadays unfortunately there’s always some kind of toxin to watch out for in our food, beauty products, clothing, and household products. We all grew up using chapstick on our dry lips, but the main ingredient in the product has questionable health risks. Let’s investigate.
The main ingredient in most chapsticks is petroleum jelly, or petrolatum. When refined correctly, petrolatum (a by-product of petroleum) poses no health risks. However, petrolatum is often not fully refined in the US which poses contamination risks such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
The EU mandates that for cosmetic use, the full refining history of the petrolatum must be known and proven to be non-carcinogenic. The US sets no requirements on refinement and the PAH content in the petrolatum used in personal care products.
So let’s move to the EU, right? Nope - we have a far more convenient solution.
Our olive oil based lip balm is petrolatum free (and therefore PAH free) and we’ve been told by loyal customers that it’s better than the commercial stuff they see at the drugstore.
Making the switch to petroleum jelly free lip balm is a powerful move you can make for your health. Unfortunately since petrolatum isn’t as highly regulated here in the US, we have to be more careful about the products we put on our skin. With our all natural olive oil based lip balm, you won’t be making any compromises when it comes to smooth, hydrated lips.
